The Nordic model works

Seventeen years after Sweden made it illegal to buy sexual services, the change in Sweden has been remarkable. People predicted that violence against prostituted women, and women in general, would rise if men were no longer able to buy sexual services. But this has not happened.

Prostitution has not been eliminated but fewer Swedish men are buying sex.  Read more about what other changes have happened in Sweden since the groundbreaking law was introduced.

SPACE International – a partner of Donor Direct Action – advocates for other countries to also adopt the Nordic model. So far 5 European countries have done so and others are considering adoption of variations of the model.

Space International is an organization of sex trade survivors who work to raise awareness about the harmful effects of prostitution.
