A Feminist Foreign Policy

Today, in recognition Women’s Equality Day, I am sharing with you the perspective of a woman who champions gender equality at the highest levels of government. Margot Wallström, Sweden’s Foreign Minister, is setting an example for world leaders by bringing feminism to international policy.

From the halls of government in Sweden to the UN Security Council – where Sweden was recently elected to a seat – Foreign Minister Wallström asks “where are the women?” Her work is grounded in the understanding that gender equality and equal representation are critical to establishing lasting peace and security.

I encourage you to watch and share this short video of Foreign Minister Wallström discussing her country’s feminist stance on foreign policy. We look forward to a day when this approach is the norm and our leaders work in tandem with women’s rights partners to ensure a better future.

This video was made from a breakfast discussion organized by Donor Direct Action on 20 June 2016.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.
