A recent survey by the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) found that more than 75% of women's organizations had an annual income of less than $100,000; 36% had less than $25,000. Limited access to funding and other support weakens women's organizations' ability to sustain their impact, wasting vital benefits they could offer.

International Outcry Inspires Legal Action

On June 24, 2011, a 21-year-old Buddhist nun traveling to visit family in far eastern Nepal had to spend the night on a bus halted by flooding. The driver and four other men from the bus company gang-raped her until she lost consciousness.
